The clinical observation of 20 cases of pancreatic pseudocyste


Abstract
The clinical observation of 20 cases of pancreatic pseudocyst which had been treated during 11 years from Jan. 1964 to Jan. 1975 at the surgical department of Fatima Hospital were reviewed and clinically analysed with literatural references.
The results were as follow.
1. The incidence was 2.54% of all the pancreatic disease.
2. The highest incidence was in the 4th decade and 60% in female and 4090 in male.
3. Major causes of pancreatic disease were indiopatic (40%) alcoholism(20%), pancreatic cancer (15%), biliary tract disease (10%), upper abdominal surgery (10%), and abdominal trauma (5%) respectively.
4. The interval from the onset of symptom to tumor development was most frequent in 7 days to 14 days.
5. The position of the pseudocyst were in body, tail, and head of pancreas in order.
6. The operative procedures were excision (3 cases), internal drainage (8 cases), external drainage (5 cases) and Whipple¢¥s procedure (1 case) respectively, and the author preferred the internal drainage using defunctionalized jejunal segments selectively
7. One case of persistent fistula and one case of recurrence were developed postoperatively and they were all in the cases of external drainage.
8. No mortality was experienced.
